China Mission Outreach Trip 2011 Zhongshon,

The USCCI team first departed from LAX to Guanzhou, China in southern China in June 2011. The hot and humid weather greeted our group of 33 individuals and we quickly boarded our bus for a three hour ride to Zhongshan.
This is a city with 2 million population, known for being the birth place of Dr. Sun Yat Sen and where Dr. John Wong decided to establish a medical/dental clinic in 1999. Here we served the local townspeople including farmers, factory workers, and members of the Free Evangelical Church. Our nurses and support staff provided health screenings including vison testing, blood pressure readings, and checking blood sugar while the medical doctors counseled many patients on diabetes, hypertension, and various other health issues. We felt blessed to have qualified staff that were able to address wound infections, perfom a few minor surgeries and even joint injections for those patients suffering from chronic pain. In addition our volunteers provided vital teaching on brushing and flossing before pateints were seen in the dental suite. The dentist stayed busy throughout the day providing preventive and restorative needs to eager individuals awaiting their care. We were fortuante to have excellent dental assistnants and sterilization technicians so our days went smoothly! To enhance the group's cultural experience in Zhongshan, the team visited a large local elementary school to not only give the students there a chance to practice English but also to give us an opportunity to distribute toothbrushes, English reading books, pens and paper. The student's enthusiasm, energy, and eagerness to practice English was exciting and a memorable experience for all on our team.
Our next destination was two hours Northwest in Chengdu where USCCI teamed up with ERC China(Earthquake Resource Center)
This is an organization lead by Frank Dunne who has been assisting the 2008 Sichuan earthquake victims for several years. Two clinics were set up in different rural towns with few convenient amenities. We served primarily elderly farmers and were amazed that some patients traveled by foot for two hours just to see our doctors and dentists for their much needed exams. The collaborative teams were quite busy seeing over 300 patients in just two days.
Our last and final stop was in Beijing, where USCCI team visited Shepherd's Field orphanage of the Philip Hayden Foundation. Here, we toured the spacious facility with their medical director Dr. Moody and interacted with a few orphan children. ( most of the children were taking a scheduled nap at the time we visited! )
They were very appreciative of USSCI's donation of medical supplies, medicines, and children's books.
USSCI members overall were very blessed by this successful mission trip. Our prayers are for God's mercy, strength, and peace to all of the patients and children that USCCI came in contact with.
We thank you for your past support and request your prayers for USCCI in planning our next trip!
